Sandy Beach Rincon Puerto Rico
Sandy Beach is the main beach in Puntas, one of the most popular and lively neighborhoods in Rincon Puerto Rico. What draws most people to Sandy Beach is the absence of reef and rocks on the ocean floor, the quality that gives the beach its welcoming name and makes it a perfect hangout for families with young children. Spending time at Sandy Beach often prompts volleyball sessions, sea glass hunting and other fun and relaxing activities. Swimming at Sandy Beach is good throughout most of the year unless big waves are breaking, in which case, grab your board and score some surf! Turtles nest on Sandy Beach, iguanas can be seen crawling up the palms, and Humpback whales breed off-shore. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Annie’s Tip: “Don’t let the name fool you, Sandy Beach is actually not the best break for beginner surfers in Rincon. Although the bottom is sand, it’s a shore break and it can break really hard so if the waves are up even a little bit, be careful at the shoreline. Sandy’s is also notorious for bad rip currents, so be sure and check the water before you go out and don’t let the kids swim if there’s any current. On calm days this is an amazing spot and rightfully earned a reputation for one of Rincon’s best beaches. You can walk from Sandy’s North all the way to Aguada if you want to and it’s beautiful the whole way.”
