Plan the Perfect Destination Wedding in Western PR

rincon puerto rico wedding photographer

Wondering why country star Shania Twain picked Rincon Puerto Rico as the destination for her 2011 wedding, where she famously tied the knot with now-husband Frederic Thiebaud? It’s probably because Rincon PR is nothing short of a Caribbean oasis – a place where you’re pretty much guaranteed to have warm, sunny weather almost any day of the year, where you can look down through the crystal blue water and see straight to the bottom, where you can score consistent surf all winter long, and where you can plan a destination wedding knowing that there is little that can threaten the perfection of your big day. Destination Weddings in Western PR Located on the northwestern “corner” of Puerto Rico, Rincon is a tiny surf town that was barely even on the map until the 1960s, when the World Surfing Championship was held at Domes and Maria’s Beaches in Rincon. Today, Western Puerto Rico, and Rincon in particular, are popular vacation destinations for those looking to escape the bone-chilling temperatures that typically come during winter, a time when Rincon is truly at its finest. From mid-October to mid-April, Rincon Puerto Rico enjoys mild weather, world-class waves, and very little rain, a fact […]

5 Reasons to Plan a Rincon Puerto Rico Wedding

beach wedding rincon pr

Every bride wants her wedding day to stand out from the rest, and what better way to create a memorable celebration of your blessed union than to hold your wedding on a beautiful tropical island, with palm trees, blue skies and the Caribbean Sea as your natural backdrop? Not only has Puerto Rico (the West coast in particular) become a popular vacation spot for Americans over the years, but the island is also the perfect location for a destination wedding, whether you have your heart set on an outdoor beach wedding or a black-tie affair. And if the palm trees, coconuts and pristine water isn’t enough to convince you, check out our top five reasons for planning a wedding in Rincon Puerto Rico…   1. You don’t need a passport. One major setback in planning a destination wedding is that any foreign country and many Caribbean islands (like Aruba and Barbados) require visitors to carry a passport, which could prove to be a major headache for wedding guests who don’t already have one on hand. Since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, guests traveling from the United States do not have to show a passport to get onto or off […]

    Hi there,

There are 2 families looking for a beachfront vacation rental. We are OK staying in the same home (if it’s a villa), or renting 2 condos in the same complex.

    Arrival date: February 12, 2015, departure February 22, 2015.

We have 3 teenagers travelling with us that are eager to try surfing. Ideally, we’d be close to a beginner surfing area.

    We are looking for a place that is;

    – beach front
    – close to restaurants
    – close to grocery store
    – is central and therefore don’t need a car

Transportation to and from the airport is a requirement. Is this something you can offer? Or do we need to arrange ourselves?

    Thanks in advance.

Will this be a good time of year and what can we expect to fish for at that time? We plan stay just South of Rincon. Two of us are very interested.

    • Hi Craig,
Most of the light tackle goes out around Boqueron which is about 40 minutes south of Rincon. They fish primarily for tarpon in this area. Please let us know if you have any other questions or when you are ready to book – there are very few outfitters so we do suggest calling a couple hours in advance for this – thanks!

  162. Doug from Connecticut says:

I would also like to know the 2014 dates.

I was interested in the tour of Old San Juan and mofongo & mojitos class for a large group (approx. 50?) sometime in January. But I noticed that your chef is in Rincon so maybe we could set something up in Western PR?

  165. Kayley Pose says:

    I. Need about. 5 br for a the week before Christmas for a family vacation? Mike

  167. Pam Hugill says:

Hi I was wondering if you could help direct me to a place to stay. Hotel or B&B would be great. I would like as close to the beach as possible. I also need to know where to fly into as we have never been there before. Thank you

    • Hi Pam,
The closest airport is Aguadilla, airport code BQN which is about a 45 minute drive. Flights are limited however, so many guests fly into SAn Juan and drive over (2.5-3 hour drive). Some of our favorite small inns on the beach include Casa Islena, Las Palmas, Tres Sirenas, Blue Boy Inn. You can view all of these on our site by searching lodging and choosing beachfront or walk to beach. Feel free to call us at 787-632-2889 with any questions. Thank you!

  168. Christine Kenning says:

Hi there – my husband and I are visiting the island with a family group for a wedding, arriving 27 October and staying in villa between Sandy and Pools Beach. I am interested to know whether any of the larger hotels on the Caribbean side have spa facilities that can be used and also, whether any hotel beach facilities, on the Caribbean side, are open to non-guests, for day fee? We would also be interested to know of any boat trips that you organise, perhaps with the opportunity to stop and swim. I look forward to hearing from you. Christine and Peter

    • Hi Christine,
Unfortunately none of the the hotels here in Rincon have spa facilities, however most are open to non-guests using their ground as long as you are dining. The Rincon Beach Resort, Villa Cofresi and Rincon of the Seas all allow non-guests to come to the restaurants/bars and as long as you are dining you can use the pool areas and access the beach. The exception is the Rincon of the Seas during peak time frames, but you will be here during the off season so it should not be a problem. We may be able to organize a boat trip although it is the slow season so not everything is open – call Justin at 787-632-2889 to book a tour and he can answer any questions for you. Thank you!

  169. david garcia says:

I am looking to do the bio bay tour. I have heard that you can’t swim in the bio bay. Are you allowed to swim in the bio bay on this tour? Also, I will be staying in San Juan and I hear there are different bay tours. Is there a location that is better than another one? I wouldn’t mind traveling to a further location if one of the bay tours is a lot better than another tour.

    What do you recommend?

    Thank you

Hi! I’m staying at the wonderful Rincon Beach Resort and am wondering if anywhere nearby would have some traditional Puerto Rican food such as léchon, tostones, pionono, or chicharonnes? Also looking for a la pirata!

    • Hi Roxanne,
Close to the Rincon Beach Resort, you can try El Fogon which is located just North of the Resort on the 115 at the ‘curves’ of Rincon, which overlook the ocean there – you’ll see it! To get a ‘pirata’, keep heading North until you see the signs for Villa Cofresi – turn left and head toward the beach, you’ll see it! Have fun!

Ellen and I have enjoyed following your articles and information about Rincon. We are staying at a friends vacation home about 1/2 mile from the Lazy Parrot. On the local Rincon tourist map, we are at D4.

Would you know of someone who could prepare some meals and drop them off? We are healthy eating plant based, mostly fruits, vegetables, sometimes fish. No meat or dairy. Our, is there a place were we could purchase this take home food?

It would be nice not to have to cook on our vacation.

I will be on a Royal Caribbean cruise from 02/16/14- 02/23/14. I would like to do the bioluminescent bay either before or after the cruise. Do you have tours on Fridays and Sundays next February? Also, can you recommend reasonable accommodations? Thank you.

  245. Alan Klein says:

My Fiance, Ellen, and I enjoy what you have created with We have the opportunity to stay at a friends vacation home in Rincon from 4/16/13 to 4?26/13. We are inquiring if you know someone who prepares healthy meals and snacks created from the local produce and products, and might be interested in giving a cooking lesson also. We are not looking for any high end service. Just someone who would be within our vacartion budget, nice personality, and a good cook who could handle most of the shopping. The assistance would be for the length of our stay. The person would be able to cook the meals at their own home, drop them off, or we can pick them up.

We are arriving on a late flight tonight into the local Rincon Airport.

Hi, My husband and I are taking a cruise out of San Juan arriving back in San Juan on April 21. I know that there are bioluminescent sites closer to San Juan, but thought coming to Parguera would give me a chance to see more of the island. We need to arrange a rental car to meet us at the cruise ship dock, then we will be traveling toward Parguera.
I noticed that it will be a full moon on April 21 and know that is not an ideal situation, but we only have a few days to tour before returning to Florida. Will trips be going out with the full moon?

I am going to PR on 4/15 – 4/22. I would like to do the ATV Tour along with 2 other adults. I am a little bit nervous and had a few questions. I want to do a Great tour but I am afraid if the hills are too steep that I might not be able to handle it. I wouldnt want to find out in the middle of the tour though. And myself and my husband and other 2 adults are not petite people lol and so i was wondering if there is a weight limit per ATV? Also which dates during my stay would be available for each tour? And is the tour with other people in a group or just my group? The more adventurous tour sounds the most appealing, however I am afraid of the steepness in the hills and the feeling of being unsafe and able to flip out of the ATV. Please advise, i thank you for your time. i will look forward to your reply.

Im wondering what you would recommend as the best means of transportation from san juan to Rincon? We will only have two carry-ons and my boyfriend has a surfboard that’s about 6′. We were considering a shuttle or cab ride as well. Any information or recommendations would be appreciated!

  326. Maritza Melendez says:

My family and I will be traveling to Puerto Rico the 3rd week in February… We are very interested in taking one of your tours of the Bio Bay…..

    • Hi Maritza,
Sorry I just saw this other comment from you as well – there are no age restrictions for the biobay, it is really what they feel comfortable with. If your kids are comfortable in the water and with swimming it will be fine with them. If they don’t want to get in the water at night (the dark water can be scary sometimes), the guides can pull up a bucket of water for them to play in so they can still see the luminescence. Feel free to call us if you would like to book! Thanks!

  327. Heather says:

Do you rent full-size cots or roll-away beds? (For a large 10 yr old boy 🙂

    • Hi Heather,
Sorry we don’t have any cots or hideaways for rent. You might be able to purchase a small travel bed at Kmart in Mayaguez after you arrive. I don’t know of anyone else that has anything similar for rent – hope that helps!

  328. Heather says:

Rented an apt with a fold-out but kids a tad big for that—where can we rent a cot or hideaway-type bed in the Rincon area?

My Fiancé and I are honeymooning in San Juan in May 2013 and are very interested in your Laguna Grande Tour at Fajardo. It says in the details that you need a minimum of 4 people, does that just mean that you need at least another 2 people to book the tour separately from us, or we have to have a party of four, if so, we can’t go? We would want to book it as much as advance as possible as we won’t have much time on email leading up to the wedding/right after the wedding to email and get the info for the tour.

  343. Lynn says:

What’s our best bet? Staying in Rincon right after Christmas 2012, group of 4, good swimmers but don’t want to snorkel at night, just ride in a boat and sight-see. Can we take a boat ride and observe the night lights? Any chance for a shuttle from Rincon or do we have to drive back and forth? If Yes to a shuttle availability, what’s the cost for 4 people?

    • Hi Lynn,
We can arrange shuttles, but if you have the option I would suggest driving yourself. Shuttle is about $175 flat for 1 – 7 people. You are welcome to do just the biobay tour ($30) and if you feel comfortable you can get in the water, if not, you can just sit in the boat and observe – the guides can bring some water in a bucket for you to see the luminescence. Please give us a call to book – Thanks!

  344. Joanne says:

Which beach is best for snorkeling, beginning surfers and family fun?

    • Hi Joanne,
The best beach for beginner surfers is Maria’s (but this all depends on wave conditions). It can be a long paddle out and it is a reef break, but the waves are consistent and if you’re with a strong instructor it is very safe at the right times. Best for snorkeling is Steps which is just South of Maria’s ~ steps can be fun for families depending on the age of your kids. Both Steps and Maria’s are rock/reef at the shoreline, so we like to take our kids to the Marina or Corcega where it’s all sand. Thanks and have fun!

  345. Becca says:

We will be staying in Le Concha in San Juan how far is the ride from there to La Parguera for the biobay tour?

    • Hi Becca – to the biobay in La Parguera it is about 2 – 2 1/2 hours from San Juan. The biobay in Fajardo is only 45 minutes away, but it does book up fast. Call us to book either one. Thanks!

  346. Wendy says:

Will you have a shuttle at the Aquadilla airport noon Dec 29?? Two of us to go to Coconut Palms Inn in Rincon. What is the cost?

  347. Shawna says:

We are heading to SanJuan from late Dec to early Jan. It sounds like you have a lot of great activities, and we are especially interested in a rainforest/waterfall tour, some ziplining, and some caving. What do you offer within an hour of San Juan. The youngest in our group is 13, in case that matters for any of the activities.
    Thanks so much!

  348. Danielle Morrill says:

    • Hi Roxanna,
Rincon is about a 2.5 – 3 hour drive from San Juan. The best thing to do is to rent a car to get across the island. There are several name brand agencies you can rent with – on our car rentals page we have a discount code for Budget and Avis. You do not need a passport to travel from the states to Puerto Rico. Let me know if you have any other questions – Thanks!

Will be staying in San Juan August 16 and leaving the 20th. I am not familair with the transportation and ferry options. I have looked at other comapanies that host this activity, and they suggest to stay the night near by, why is that? Could you suggest the best way to and from ? It will be for a group of 4 adults.
Please feel free to send any other information needed before we book.

    • It sounds like you might be asking about how to get to the biobay on the island of Vieques – which does require a ferry ride. The tours we offer near San Juan are in the Fajardo biobay (puerto rico has 3 bays so it can be confusing!) which is just about 45 minutes from San Juan. The ferry to Vieques can be difficult to catch which is why they may recommend staying near the dock the night before. If you would like to book Fajardo, we can reserve for you – we just recommend booking at least a week in advance. Thanks!

  471. Jessica says:

how far in advance should i start booking events to do in puerto rico and when would i pay for the events.

    • Hi Jessica,
For most activities you can book about a week or so in advance. Some are able to book the day before, but it’s always better to have a few days notice. You don’t need to book months in advance. When you make the booking we’ll get a cc number from you to keep on file and then you’ll be charged the day of the activity. Thanks!

  473. julie provident says:

Just to make sure I have this right. . .Step beach and Tes Palmas are the same? Is this where your 10am day tour takes passengers to on the catamaran? – hope I spelled that right 😉 Does this trip instruct one on how to snorkel and provide eqipment? Last question- safe for kids? We have a 7 and 8 year old. Thanks!!

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Julie,
Yes, it’s a bit confusion, but the beach in this area is usually referred to as Steps Beach – the surf break off the shore here is referred to as Tres Palmas. The area from Steps to Maria’s is called the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve and that is where you snorkel on the catamaran tour. They do give you some instruction, the first mate on the boat can help the kids if it is their first time snorkeling, just be sure to tell them in advance so they’ll know they need a little extra attention.

  474. Shakira Coles says:

  479. Louise says:

  480. Julie says:

We’re coming to Rincon the week of June 23-July 1. We have a group of about 10 people who would like to to the sunset sailing trip. Is there a safe place on the silboat for young kids? We have a 3, 7 and 8 year old.

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Julie,
Yes the boat is safe for children, there is a cabin where they can be inside and in general it is a smooth sail due to the fact that it is a catamaran which keeps the boat very stable. They also have children life vests aboard. Please give us a call if you would like to book. Thanks!

  481. Julie says:

Is the snorkeling/bio bay trip suitable for children age 7 and up?

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Julie,
Yes, this is fine for children as long as they are comfortable in the water. The water in this area is very calm and warm. The only concern would be swimming in the biobay at night might be a little scary for the younger ones, but as far as safetly, it is a very calm and safe trip. Thanks!

  482. Daniel Kelley says:

Hi. We will arrive San Juan from New York on Friday around 1:00 pm. Is it possible to arrange for a private car, helicopter or small plane to take us to The Horned Dorset (near Rincon)? Can you please advise the cost of each and the duration of the trip. It will be for 2 adults, minimal luggage, one-way trip only. Please reply as soon as possible. Thank you! Daniel Kelley

  483. Christian says:

I wpuld lole to know : when where place(exact ) and how much the classes.

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi – The classes are usually hosted at your home or villa if there is a kitchen available. If you do not have a villa with a kitchen, we can arrange to host the classes nearby in Rincon. The cost is $200 for up to 4 students. Thanks!

  484. Darlene says:

Would 2 people be able to share one ATV in Rincon whereas at a certain point the passenger would switch with the driver?

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi – sure, that can be arranged. Thanks!

      • carlos cortes says:

Hey im interested in booking a tour on the atv”s. were gonna be about 8 to 10 people, were gonna be staying in villa cofresi on the weekend of November 2 to the 4th but want to do the tour on that Sunday Nov4 is it possible?

  485. bethany says:

hello there, we are coming to wyndham rio mar puerto rico beach for our honeymoon september 17-20th 2012. which one of these bio bay tours are closest to this resort and how much $ will it cost for transportation there and back please.

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Bethany, The tour closest to you would be the tour in Fajardo. We do suggest booking at least 1 – 2 weeks in advance for this tour as it does fill up. We can send you a custom quote for transportation. Thanks!

  486. Mary says:

Hi We will be visiting June 5-23. I’m interested in a class for two at our villa. Our two daughters will be there as well but most likely not want to participate. Can you give me some costs?

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Mary –
The cost for the cooking class is a flat $200 up to 4 people, so it would be the same if there were 2 or four of you. The instructor normally shows you how to work with plantains in several forms and then prepares a main dish of your choosing (meat or fish) along with some traditional puerto rican sides. It’s a great time and great food. Let us know if you would like to book – thanks!

  487. Kimberly Vargas says:

We are headed to Boqueron next week and staying at Paladar Boquemar…we would love to do this tour but are unsure how far we are from you? We also will have a car but I think I read that there can be arrangements made for a shuttle? We are only 3. Thanks 🙂

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Kimberly,
The tour in La Parguera is not a far drive from Boqueron – probably about 30 minutes. Transportation is not included, but yes, a shuttle can be arranged. Let us know if you would like to book it – thanks!

  488. RinconVacations says:

Thanks for visiting! Glad we could oblige. 🙂

  489. Jee says:

Please send info for yoga weekend retreat looking to travel in June 2012.

    Thanks in advance.

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Jee,
We do not know of any scheduled yoga retreats in Rincon at that time, but we will forward your info to some local instructors in case they can design something perosnal for you. Thanks!

  503. Jessica says:

Hello, my husband and I are coming to Rincon in June for our anniversary and would love to do a biobay tour. All of the options seem to have a minimum of 4 people required. Is there an option for us?
    Thank you!

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Jessica – The biobay tours do have minimums, but this is for the total group, not per booking. So, if you’re a little flexible, we should be able to get you out on a night htat has at least two other people booked, no problem. Feel free to call us to book anytime. Thanks!

  504. Amanda says:

Are these activities seasonal? I won’t be in Puerto Rico until December and really want to zip line, I was unable to do it last time and I cannot wait to try it.

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Amanda – some of the tours are seasonal, however the zipline runs year-round. You should be able to go next December no problem. Call us about 1 – 2 weeks in advance to secure a booking. Thanks!

  505. Kinga says:

we have 2 adults and 2 kids in our party — the kids are 9 and 5.5 years old. The younger is probably too young for ziplining. Can she still take a tour with us and do the water rafting and the cave? (we are thinking option 2).

    Can you advise?
Also, what’s the availablity for Tuesday 17th of April?
    Thank you!

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Kinga – I know Justin spoke to you about this, but for anyone else with the same question: younger children are able to go on the tour, but skip the ziplining, however the hiking can be long, depending on what cave you go to. For a child that can be in a pack this is usually not a problem, but for a smaller one that can’t be carried, it might be hard. It really depends on the personality and fitness of both the child and the adults in the party. Thanks and I hope you have fun!

  507. Richard Jeffreys says:

interested in option #1, double kayak, is it available on sun? Only 2 in our party

  509. Renee Fussner says:

I am looking to book a 2pm tour for 5 on Wednesday 4/25. Before I booked I was wondering if one or two people didn’t want to do the ziplining would they still be able to do the rest of the tour. I am only asking because we were hoping to spelunk so I am not sure how everybody feels about ziplining. Please let me know at your earliest convenience, by email. Also let me know if you need a deposit or payment in full now. I am excited to get this booked

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Renee,
If people want to skip certain parts of the tour, that is fine. Most people choose to skip the rappelling (if anything). Justin should be in contact via email or feel free to call us anytime, I know you’ll have a great time!

  512. brenda says:

Hi there, had a few questions 🙂 on the 4 hour tour, can you swim in the bio bay? We are 15 of us that is going,do you ofer group discount? what is your prices for children and how far in advance do we need to do reservations? thanks

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Brenda,
yes on the 4 hour tour you get to swim in the bay as well. For a group of 15 we may be able to do a discount, we will need to check with our provider. Children are normal price just because they count as a full spot on the boat (but under 2 they will do for free). For 15 I would recommend a week or so in advance. Feel free to call us with anything else. Thanks!

  513. Carlos says:

Do you rent mountain bikes without the tour? I will be in Rincon tomorrow and Monday and may need 2-3 bikes to rent

  514. Nicole says:

Can you please let me know the minimum age for a surfer in a private lesson (lesson of two, my son and myself)?

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Nicole,
It really depends on the child and the conditions – usually around 7 is the youngest, but they will do as young as 5 if the child is really comfortable in the water and the conditions are really favorable for easy surfing. Let us know and we’ll get you booked!

  515. Carlos says:

Hello, will be in Rincon this Sunday and Monday. I am looking for one or 2 bikes to rent for my nephew and a friend. I know the trails near the lighthouse, and will be bringing my bike so I don’t need the tour, just 1 or 2 rental mtn bikes for one of the 2 days.

  520. Beth says:

We will be staying at Sandy Beach the last week of April and would love to book a tour in Rincon. Do we need to schedule in advance? There are 6 of us.

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Beth, It is ideal to book at least two days in advance, but we don’t need much more notice than that. 6 people should be fine. Email or call us a couple days prior to your trip and we’ll get it finalized. Thanks!

Casa Verde is one good option, it is in a great neighborhood and next to a really popular bar. Feel free to send us any other questions or call and we’ll get him all set up. Thanks!

  523. Paul says:

Im going to be in PR this summer most likely around San Juan. Me and friends are trying to rent atvs for a whole day. is that possible?

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Paul, It might be possible, we would just have to call our provider and see if they would allow this. Were you wanting to transport them somewhere away from where they do the tours? That would probably not be allowed, but you may be able to to a full day extended tour. Feel free to call us to chat more in depth. Thanks!

do you know who operates tours on Vieques? what is the price? is it worth the overnight trip to the island?

    • RinconVacations says:

      Hi Roni,
We don’t book in Vieques, but I have been told that the best person to go with is Gary from Vieques Adventure Company – they have clear kayaks that you can use which sounds super cool! If you have the time on your trip I always recommend a trip to Vieques or Culebra – it will take some time to get there but it is so beautiful. Good luck!

  532. How easy to board the boats, my wife is disables but can walk short distances with a cane? Could she handle the fun?

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi John, The most difficult part would be the mobility to lift her legs over the edge of the dighy to get transported to the boat. Once on board there would be no problem, because there are plenty of comfortable places to sit. I would recommend being a little flexible to make sure that you go out on a really quiet day with no waves so it is the most easy to get in and out. Feel free to call us and we can speak further – thanks!

  533. My wife is disabled but walks with a cane. Would you be able to help her enjoy the ride of her native Puerto Rico. Nothing full gallop but a leisurely ride? We will be in PR from April 5 to April 16.

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi John, Of course. If she has the mobility to walk with a cane I think she would be fine in the saddle. We can speak to the horseback guide ahead of time and make sure they are aware of the situation so that they can pick the best horse. Call us any time and we can go over all of your options – thanks!

I’m an experienced surfer, but want to surf the best waves!

We want to go riding near RIncon. We are all experienced riders, 4to5 of us. Where?

        • RinconVacations says:

Hi guys – if you’re more experienced we usually recommend a private tour so you can ride as fast as you want with no worries. If you have a lot of experience, it’s worth it to get a little more freedom. Privates are $75 per person for 2 hours and you can pick your times. Let us know what you’d like to do – thanks!

          • Bailey says:

My boyfriend and i will be coming to Puerto Rico in February, we are both very experienced riders and know our way around horses, do you offer private rides and if so how much are they?

          • We can certainly arrange for a private tour for you so that they can tailor it to your experience. Let us know when you would like to book it – if you book about a week in advance, that would be perfect for that time of year. Thanks!

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Chloe- The biobay is very calm waters, not difficult swimming and you can have a noodle or life vest. It is a night which is scary for some, but all in all, a very easy swimming experience. Feel free to call us with any other questions. Thanks!

  573. Jean says:

Are there any sailing snorkeling excursions that give discounts for people who don’t drink alcohol? Are there excursions that don’t serve booze. Personally, I think it is a waste of my money to pay for something I don’t use.

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Jean – the hobie cat tour does not include or offer alchohol. Many of the adventure tours such as horseback riding or eco-tours do not include alchohol either. Feel free to call us any time to book or answer any questions. Thanks!

Hi. My husband and I are visiting because he loves to surf. However, I don’t know how to swim. Would you recommend some activities in Rincon that would be fun for a non-swimmer? We will spend a lot of time on the beach. The only thing I have in mind now is parasailing

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Chloe – you can pick from many of the adventure tours – eco adventure, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, coffee plantation. The sailing tours do not include swimming either (sunset sail). Feel free to call us and we can recommend some more options for you -thanks!

  581. Jeannie Bryant says:

We will be there Feb 13 – 18. I understand that it is whale mating season….does one of the boat trips take you out to observe the whales?

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Jeannie – we recommend the sunset cocktail cruise on the catamaran for whale watching this time of year. It is a really fun trip (even if you don’t see whales) and if there are whales sighted in the area, the captain will do everything possible to get you as close as possible to see them. Plus there seems to be a lot of luck spotting them at sunset. If you have any questions feel free to give us a call – thanks!

  582. Karl says:

I was looking to book a Rinco cooking class but was looking for some additional information. We are staying at the Rinco of the Seas so we do not have a kitchen available to us. 595. Braidie says:

Hi I am planning on staying in Rincon in March and am interested in both the eco tour and the bioluminescent experience, would doing both in one day be too much? Also what is the easiest way to get there from Rincon if we don’t have a vehicle?

    • RinconVacations says:

Hi Braidie – we can help you out on both. I would not suggest doing both the eco-tour and bio-bay in one day if you have another opeion. We have had people try and it just ends up being too much driving. It is possible, but if you have two days, it’s best to split them up. We can arrange transportation if needed – the price is daily for a shuttle van. Justin is emailing you this info now and can make your booking for you. Thanks and looking forward to having you guys in Rincon with us!

  596. Rickie says:

Hey can you still swim in the bio bay? We are coming in February and would love to swim in the bay on your trip if possible. Thanks

There is a max weight limit of 250 lbs for the zipline and rappelling portion. Feel free to call us anytime to book, we’d be happy to help answer any more questions – 787-632-2889. Thanks!

my mother and friends will be returning for their yearly visit to Rincon and I would like to set up a cooking class for 6 women in January. What type of options do I have.

    • adminrv says:

      Hi Ed,
Thanks for inquiring about a cooking class for your mom. I sent you an email with this information as well.
We can certainly get her and her friends all set up. The class runs $200 for up to 4 people. To add 2 more, it would be $40 each, so a total of $280 flat fee for 6 people. This would include all food and materials. The class is a mixture of cooking demonstration and participation and of course they get to taste what they cook. Normally the chef designs the class around an introduction to Puerto Rican food – how to prepare plantains in a variety of ways (tostones, mofongo, aranitas, amarillos), Caribbean sauces like sofrito or criollo and then a special main dish of their choice – snapper, lechon, churrasco — whatever they would specifically like to learn.

Let me know if this answers your questions or if you would like to chat more, feel free to call me at 787-464-2052.

In your restaurant guide, you list the Black Eagle as The Spot at Black Eagle. It has not been The Spot for 15 months at least. The original Black Eagle has been re-opened since this summer, and features many of Bill Embree’s famous dishes, especially the fried conch. They’re serving fresh-caught fish again, too. Down by the Marina. (See El Coqui for a full-page ad).

    • adminrv says:

Hi Paul – thanks for the catch. You’re right, I’ll change the name – sorry old habits die hard! We’ve actually had the conch and it’s pretty tasty. 🙂 Killer location to match.

  646. DANNY says:

I miss being bored in Rincon! City life on the mainland makes me long for Rincon sometimes.

  647. Carlos & Provy says:

Yes, their sea glass jewelry is beautiful and one of a kind. We are strong believers that no matter where you travel you should make an attempt to try to pick up something that is made by a local artisan. Doesn’t have to be something expensive just something truly ‘made in ______’.

    • RinconGirl says:

I agree! And it shouldn’t be hard to find, but sometimes getting something authentic can be hard. There is also a great new art gallery and shop that featured only local artisans that opened in town recently called Tres Puertas. I’m going to do a blog post on it soon , but if you’re back in Rincon anytime soon, you should check it out! Bright blue storefront in the plaza.

      • dafish says:

I noticed on the main page of the other site you had something in the header called “BABY BORICUA” & said to read your article about traveling and living in RIncon with children. I did not find the article / blog but would love to give it a read. I am currently entertaining the idea of giving up the daily grind in the states and take my beautiful wife & child to Rincon to run a bed & breakfast. However, my wife is scared that between the crime & education options it may not be the best move for our child (who means the world to me & is the main reason I feel such a need to escape the life I currently live). Any advise & or insight would be appreciated!!!

I think I like the three kings even more than Christmas itslef. I took the faily back from the US for a holiday in Puerto Rico last year and they really loved the genuine celebrations! I wish it happened more often.

  651. lindsey says:

Thanks for trying:) We are interested in moving specifically to Rincon, but sadly we can't just up and move without a job set up. We have 2 young children and can't afford to be without an income for long. I understand the hesitation to hire, but we are very serious about moving there and I wish there was a way to reassure people of that. As far as taking a job in tourism, my husband is currently a landscape manager so he would be very useful for the landscape side of the industry. Anyway thank you for your help. Let me know if you hear of anything available.

  652. RinconGirl says:

Hi Lindsey – Sorry it took me a little while to respond… I wish I had a good resource for you, but I haven't ever come across a good employment website for Puerto Rico. I know it doesn't help with planning, but the best thing to do seems to be to make connections and talk to people when you get down here. A lot of people "talk" about moving to PR and never actually do it, so many people are hesitate to hire until they see you here in person (at least that's some of the feedback that I've gotten). In Rincon in particular, there are lots of jobs in the tourism industry, but I'm not sure if you were specifically thinking of moving to Rincon – or if tourism was something you were interested in. Sorry that's not much help! Good luck!

  653. lindsey says:

I have a quick question. Do you know what is the best method for finding employement in your area? My husband and I love Puerto Rico (especially Rincon) and would love to move back to the Island, but have had a hard time finding open positions. Thanks for any information you may have. I love your blog.

  654. lindsey says:

I have a question… what kind of employement is available in that area and what is the best way to find it? My husband and I love Puerto Rico (especially Rincon) My husband lived there for 2 years and we are trying to move back, but we have had a hard time finding job openings. He has a B.S. in horticulture, is fluent in Spanish and English and has management experience. If you know of anything available, or of a good website for employement in the area I'd love to hear about it. thanks. Lindsey

    Hi guys,
Britton and I were wondering what you guys do for health insurance down there? We are at the final stages before moving down there and are trying to estimate all of our expenses. How hard was it for you to start a business? We are thinking of opening a guesthouse/farm.

I love this time of the year in Rincon, we are lucky to be up on a hill and at night, we need a light blanket, so it is nice not to need the air conditioner or ceiling fans. We were there in Sept and was shocked that it was as hot as it was, we had our air going each night. I will be there in a month or so, I am glad it got cooler..

  669. RinconGirl says:

hi rosa! that sounds like it… we'll have to try the lobster mofongo next time!

  670. Rosa says:

If you are talking about the restaurant on a side street, that if you blink you miss it, then yes I have been there about 5 times, and each time it was better than the previous. I had the best lobster mofongo there, oh, now I am hungry!

A little better: "Cut off the person on your right and turn left at the mango tree. If there is [a lot of] traffic, drive in the emergency lane. Go fast so the police don't catch you. If you can make miracles: avoid the potholes in the middle of the road …"

Also: "Remember, you have two ears …"

In PR, "chinchorro" is a bar, but in addition, it is what might be called a "dive" in the US.

"El cuerpo te la pide" is an advertising campaign for Coors Light in PR. Literally, it means, "your body asks for it". So the line about stopping for a beer at a dive is a humorous reference to the many many Coors Light billboards around the island.
