If you thought fishing in Puerto Rico was only about big heavy rods and waiting on a 40 lb marlin – think again! With light tackle fly-fishing adventures in Puerto Rico, you head right off shore to shallower waters where you can catch and release tarpon like it’s going out of style. These exciting fishing charters use light spinners and fly rods and target the fish that bite all day. Southwestern Puerto Rico and the areas around Boqueron, Mayaguez and Cabo Rojo, just outside of Rincon are known across the island for the great variety of light tackle fishing areas, including ideal bays, rivers, reefs, mangroves and estuaries where these fish love to hide. When you fish light tackle or go fly-fishing in Puerto Rico you’ll be targeting tarpon, snapper, jacks, snook and ladyfish – fun fish that put up a fight!  Near San Juan there are some great inland lakes stocked full of the rare Amazon peacock bass and other great sport fish.  Book a peacock bass fishing charter and spend the day up to your elbows in fish!

Week of March 4th 2014 will be looking to fish with lighter tackle(preferably fly fishing).
Will this be a good time of year and what can we expect to fish for at that time? We plan stay just South of Rincon. Two of us are very interested.

      Hi Craig,
Most of the light tackle goes out around Boqueron which is about 40 minutes south of Rincon. They fish primarily for tarpon in this area. Please let us know if you have any other questions or when you are ready to book – there are very few outfitters so we do suggest calling a couple hours in advance for this – thanks!
