Stand-Up Paddleboarding is an ancient form of surfing that can be traced back early Polynesia. It’s most recent history dates back to the 1940’s when the beach boys (surf instructors) on Waikiki beach used to stand up and paddle out to the break using a one bladed paddle. As time moved on board designs and fashions changed, the paddle was all but lost in the history of surfing. These days surfers are rediscovering the benefits of the paddleboard. Try your hand at this new sport with a paddleboard surf lesson or an up-river paddleboard adventure tour. Beginners can start in flat, calm water to get the basics, or combine the paddleboarding with snorkeling local reef. More experienced surfers can rent an SUP and try to tackle the waves near Maria’s or Domes.

Newbies can start in the calm waters on Rincon’s Caribbean coast, while more experienced SUP’ers can head for the waves towards Tres Palmas and Sandy Beach. Stand up paddleboarding is a great core workout and a wonderful way to get out on the water. Great for calm or flat days on the water when there might not be enough surf for a smaller board. This guided, advanced night SUP & snorkel tour is truly one-of-a-kind. You’ll meet just before sunset with your guide and assistant to orientate yourself on the boards and get a quick instruction on the paddleboards. You must be able to show competence in both skills to be able to participate. To begin you’ll head on calm waters out watching the golden sunset off the Western coast. As darkness sets in, you’ll paddle to the best snorkeling spots for the conditions, usually nearing the Tres Palmas Marine reserve (location determined by conditions). Your boards will illuminate the ocean below via the bottom-mounted LED lights. With clear and calm conditions you’ll be able to see to depths of approximately 30 feet, viewing fish life and coral formations as you paddle. After about 30-45 minutes the group will converge for snorkeling. Dismount your SUP’s and follow your guide’s flashlight beneath the night seas. Common fish seen include ballyhoo, squid, lobster, shrimp, octopus and more. Stargaze after you finish snorkeling during this fantastic & unique paddleboarding experience.
